Pyrolytic carbon coating
Coating with pyrolytic carbon (PyC is a very distinct method, in comparison to other available methods of surface properties enhancement.
The key difference is that for coating the same element is used – Carbon. Therefore no other element or chemical substance is introduced, and chemically pure carbon products can be produced.
Pyrolytic carbon is mostly produced by CVD reaction by deposition of amorphous carbon from either solid or gaseous hydrocarbons onto surface of graphite parts. This treatment bonds with the surface, and coats the parts´ surfaces homogenously, with ability of covering and filling small surface pores into certain extent. The surface of pyrolytic carbon is smooth, hard and more abrasion resistant, than the original graphite.
- Production of chemically pure parts possible
- Higher wear resistance of surface
- Lower gas permeability
